Ignacio M. Llorente, Ph.D in Computer Science (UCM) and Executive MBA (IE Business School), is a Full Professor in Computer Architecture and Technology and the Head of the Distributed Systems Architecture Research Group at Complutense University of Madrid, Director of the OpenNebula Open-Source Project, and Chief Executive Advisor and co-founder of C12G Labs, a technology start-up. He has held several appointments as an independent expert for the European Commission (Communications Networks, Content and Technology Directorate-General) and several companies and national governments; visiting positions at the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (NASA Langley Research Center); consultancy positions with Sun Microsystems; and a Senior Researcher position in the Advanced Computing Lab at CAB (CSIC/INTA center associated to NASA Astrobiology Institute).
He has 20 years of experience in research and development of advanced distributed computing and virtualization technologies, architecture of large-scale distributed infrastructures and resource provisioning platforms, and management of international projects and initiatives on Grid and Cloud Computing; having led the research group in many sponsored projects and contracts, published more than 140 scientific papers in the leading journals and proceedings books, and participated in the program committee of several yearly-celebrated workshops and conferences. He has given keynotes and invited talks in many relevant international events, being a well-known speaker on the topics of Cloud Computing, and strategic management of research, development and innovation.
Prof. Llorente is one of the pioneers and world's leading authorities on Cloud Computing. He serves on several Groups of Experts on Cloud Computing convened by international organizations, such as the European Commission and the World Economic Forum, and has contributed to several Cloud Computing panels and roadmaps. He participates in the main European projects in Cloud Computing, such as RESERVOIR, main EU-funded research initiative in virtualized infrastructures and cloud computing, and currently serves in the Editorial Board of IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing, Journal of Grid Computing - From Grids to Cloud Federations, and Journal of Cloud Computing. He founded and co-chaired the Open Grid Forum Working Group on Open Cloud Computing Interface, and participated in the coordination of the Service Oriented Infrastructure Working Group of NESSI -European Technology Platform on Software and Services.
